My Wardrobe Struggle

I honestly don't know how to start this one. Even the thought of writing about this has me stumped which could be poetic in a way. I think before I went to a fashion school I didn't realize that my wardrobe was a hot mess but now that I'm constantly surrounded by people who inspire me it's hard to not notice.

The problem I have found with my wardrobe is that I buy a lot of "stupid" things. These items consist of pieces that will go out of trend quickly and look better in my head than they do in reality. Basically I'm talking about crop tops and shorts. I'm not saying that crop tops and shorts in general aren't a good idea but the ones I pick out just don't make sense for the settings I'll be in and what I really need from my clothes. An example of this is the picture on the left. I'm wearing a pink and white striped crop top from Pacsun that was cute for a second but I'm not going to wear it to work or school and I wasn't ever my first choice to wear when I was going out.

So after coming to term with the fact that my wardrobe needed serious rehabilitation I did what I always do when I'm thinking way too much. I did research. Of course I started on Pinterest where I just started pinning on a new board all the things that I liked. But after looking at my board I realized that it was full of more "stupid" clothes, which made me realize that I needed serious help. This got me to start asking people at work how they developed their styles where I then got advice from one person to visit a blog called Un-Fancy. This site finally helped me find peace of mind because it introduced me to the idea of a capsule wardrobe. Now for a person like me who is addicted to any and all clothing I needed to get myself into having a capsule wardrobe so I could restrict myself just buying anything on a hanger.

For anyone who has never heard of capsule wardrobe like me, it is a wardrobe that consists of say four basic bottoms and six basic tops that you could mix and match. This was a bit of a hard concept for a person like me because I love clothes and I couldn't imagine having only six tops, but I decided that I could have more clothing than the typical capsule wardrobe if every piece of clothing was a thoughtful purchase. I spent the following days cleaning out my closet of "stupid" clothes
